1. Starlink Installation Planning and Assessment
Our Starlink installation subject matter experts conducted an initial offsite assessment to evaluate the customer requirements for Starlink and WiFi installation in Palmer, AK. Using the satellite imagery and customer-provided onsite photos, our team able to identify potential mounting locations, cable routing paths and nearby obstructions that will affect the installation. The following data are gathered:
Result of Initial Offsite Assessment:
– Location: Palmer, AK
– Property Type: Residential home
– Property Size: 2,000 sqft, two-story
– Starlink Equipment: Standard Kit
– Mount: Temporary pole installation using Pivot mount and pipe adapter mount
*The reason is a temporary solution: the ground is frozen, and due to obstructions, this installation would usually require trenching a cable path to a 10′ pole mount for the Starlink dish, which cannot be done until Spring without heavy machinery. As such, the customer opted for a temporary solution, which we provided at a discount.
Following the offsite assessment, we sent the detailed job order to the customer for approval. Once approved and the equipment is onsite, we arrange the schedule with our Starlink installers in Palmer, AK.
2. Onsite Starlink Installation
Our Starlink installation team arrived on site and begin the installation process by performing the Starlink obstructions test. This test is designed to identify the optimal location for the dish to receive a good quality and uninterrupted signal from the Starlink satellite.
The obstructions test shows a “Good experience” rating for streaming, browsing, video calls, and gaming. This indicates that this location is ideal for mounting and installing the Starlink dish. The team securely installed the Starlink dish at the existing pole with the use of pivot mount and pipe adapter mount.
Using the cable routing kit, our team able to route the Starlink proprietary cable from the outdoor dish into the indoor mounting location of the Gen3 WiFi mesh router.
Connected the Starlink cable and power adapter to the router and powered on. Allow the router to initialize, then activate the Starlink system and configure the WIFI settings. The customer is given a walkthrough on how to manage the Starlink internet using Starlink App.
3. Starlink Optimization and Performance Testing
Our team performed the Starlink alignment test to ensure the dish was accurately aligned for optimal satellite connectivity. This involved verifying the dish’s orientation and position to achieve an unobstructed sky view and maximize signal strength. The test checks for potential obstructions, such as trees or buildings, and ensures that the dish’s azimuth (horizontal bearing) and elevation angles are correctly set.
Finally, the team performed the Starlink Speed Test twenty minutes after the installation to assess the internet connection’s overall quality. We also requested the customer to perform another Starlink speed test (basic and advanced) after a few hours. It is important to note that Starlink may sometimes take up to 12 hours to fully sync.
